Thatched, and high above the bay
The hotel sits high on a hill, a double-storey thatched building looking out over a wide bay with mountains framing the coastline behind. The sea views from the terrace restaurant are the real thing here rather than an optimistic tag. Rooms have vaulted ceilings and private balconies, and most of the 32 en-suite bedrooms have their own wooden viewing deck.
The dining room has no walls
The Blue Whale Restaurant serves contemporary South African cooking under exposed thatch beams, open-sided so the view is part of the meal. A large sundeck alongside handles the more casual end, with craft gin tastings and sundowners, and there is a play corner for children, which makes it family-friendly rather than merely tolerant.
A pool deck, one level down
The swimming pool sits on a separate level from the main building, with striped loungers and garden borders around it. The spa does full body massages and hot stone therapy for the afternoons when nobody wants to move. Free WiFi and secure parking are provided.
The rating is worth reading
